Rosa’s Table 2019 Culinary Tour of Sicily

We are pleased to announce the dates for next year’s Culinary Tour of Sicily, which will run from 15-24 September 2019. 


Arrival in Catania

DAY 1: ARRIVAL, FERLA & anapo valley

Morning pick up from Catania.

Transfer from Catania to Noto, where a welcoming lunch with our family awaits, amongst an olive grove in the Iblei Mountains.

A scenic drive through the Anapo Valley to Ferla. This is my father-in-law’s village, a small enchanting, humble town filled with a quiet and welcoming atmosphere.

Check into Villagio Campanio Agriturismo.

Morning Stroll

DAY 2: Ferla, Modica & Ragusa

Morning walk into the village of Ferla followed by a picnic lunch in the Sicilian countryside.

An afternoon visit to Modica in the province of Ragusa, where hidden culinary treasures await you such as a chocolate making demonstration.

Dinner in the beautiful city of Ragusa at one of my favourite restaurants. 


Sicilian Feast

DAY 3: ortigia

A day visit to Ortigia, Siracusa’s ancient city by the sea, where we will explore Ortigia’s culinary pleasures and colourful street market.

Optional evening cooking class led by Rosa focusing on her family’s favourite traditional Sicilian recipes. Our relatives will join us for this farewell-to-the-east-coast meal. 


Baglio di Pianetto

DAY 4: Caltagirone & Santa Cristina Gela

Early morning departure from Ferla bound for Caltagirone a village renowned for its dedication to ceramic art. Be inspired as you watch the ceramic artists at work in their studios.

Then we venture west to Baglio di Pianetto, a winery situated on the hills above Palermo in Santa Cristina Gela. Together we will enjoy a light lunch consisting of wine and cheese tasting.

Enjoy some leisure time before an evening dinner in the winery restaurant.

     

 


Cooking class

DAY 5: Cooking Class

The head Chef of the winery will lead the group in a hands on cooking class.

Free leisure time to explore the winery or relax.

Optional trip into Palermo, Sicily’s capital city with some free time to shop or revel in its medieval splendor.

 


Ricotta Making

DAY 6: Calatafimi

A morning visit into the village of Calatafimi- my parent’s village – on a picturesque hill top town of great historical significance to Italy. It is here where Giuseppe Garibaldi unified the north with the south of Italy. We will wander through the village and its country side, watch ricotta being made the ancient way, and share a relaxing lunch with my relatives.

Return to the winery for more leisure time, followed by an evening meal consisting of typical Sicilian street food.    


Cooking Class with the Duchess

DAY 7: palermo

Depart the winery for a morning visit to Capo Food Market Palermo.

Lunch with the Duke and Duchess of Palma at the Palazzo Lanza Tomasi once the home of Giuseppe Tomasi Di Lampedusa author of The Leopard.

After lunch we will take an afternoon adventure along the west coast of Sicily bound for Scopello.

Check into Hotel Torre Bennistra. 
Scopello is a beachside village once famous for tuna fishing.


Scopello Coastal Walk

DAY 8: Scopello & Doric Temple of Segesta

Free leisure time to explore Scopello’s Zingara Nature coastal walks or for leisure time to bask in the Sicilian sun, read a good book, swim in the Tyrrhenian sea, or chat with the locals.

A picnic lunch consisting of the local food delicacies of this small village.

An afternoon visit to marvel at the incredible Temple of Segesta.

DAY 9: scopello, salt pans of trapani & farewell dinner

Morning adventure along the west coast of Sicily, bound for the salt pans of Nubia, near Trapani.

Evening farewell dinner at the hotel.

Mid-morning return transfers to Palermo airport and saying goodbye to Sicily…
