Rosa’s Table Culinary Tour of Sicily 2018

3 - 12 June 2018


DAY 1: ARRIVAL, FERLA & anapo valley

Morning arrival at Catania Airport.

Transfer from Catania Airport and check into Campanio Agriturismo in Ferla. Ferla is my father-in-law’s village, a small, enchanting, humble town filled with a quiet and welcoming atmosphere.

A welcoming lunch with our family amongst the orange groves and limestone cliffs of the Anapo Valley.

DAY 2: modica & dinner at uncle pippo's

A morning visit to Modica in the province of Rugusa, where hidden culinary treasures await, such as a chocolate making demonstration. 

Dinner with our relatives, sampling home-grown produce in traditional, provincial recipes.  


DAY 3 ortigia

A day visit to Ortigia, Siracusa’s ancient city by the sea, where we will explore Ortigia’s culinary pleasures and colourful street markets.

Evening cooking demonstration led by Rosa, focusing on her family’s favourite, traditional Sicilian recipes.


DAY 4 FERLA & cooking with our relatives

Breakfast and a morning walk through
the village of Ferla, exploring village life and meeting the locals. 

Late afternoon cooking and eating wood-fired oven treats, as we share a farewell to the east coast meal with family at Uncle Pippo’s country home.

     

 


DAY 5 SANta CRISTINA GELa

Early morning breakfast with the locals in the village of Ferla.

Departure for Baglio di Pianetto, a winery situated on the hills above Palermo in San Cristina Gela. 

Light lunch consisting of wine and cheese tasting. 

Enjoy some leisure time before an evening dinner in the winery restaurant.

DAY 6 COOKING CLASS

Head Chef Filippo will lead the group in a hands on cooking class. 

Free leisure time to explore the winery or relax.    


DAY 7 palermo

Venture into Sicily’s capital, Palermo, to explore and revel in its medieval splendour and ancient food markets, or shop before lunch with the Duke and Duchess of Palma at the Palazzo Lanza Tomasi, once the home of Tomasi Di Lampedusa, author of The Leopard.

Free leisure time to explore or relax.


DAY 8 calatafimi

A morning visit to Calatafimi – my parent’s village – on a picturesque hill top town of great historical significance to Italy. It was here where Giuseppe Garibaldi unified the north with the south of Italy.

We will take a short drive to what was once my father’s countryside property, where he and his family would spend their summer days, and share a relaxed picnic lunch with my relatives.

Check into Hotel Torre Bennistra Scopello. Scopello is a beachside
village once famous for tuna fishing.

DAY 9: scopello, salt pans of trapani & farewell dinner

Optional morning adventure along the west coast of Sicily, bound for the salt pans of Nubia, near Trapani.

Free leisure time to explore Scopello’s Zingara Nature coastal walks, visit the panoramic Tonnara di Scopello, and ancient tuna fishing site, or simply time to bask in the Sicilian sun, read a good book, swim in the Tyrrhenian sea, chat with the locals, eat and shop.

Evening farewell dinner at the hotel with Rosa’s relatives.


Day 10: ciao!

Mid-morning return transfers to Palermo airport and saying goodbye to Sicily…
